2023 was indeed a hectic year as we focused the efforts of our small but committed team of staff and volunteers on two key projects funded by the generous support of Yayasan Hasanah. Our flagship programme, ASPIRE was launched in mid June. This is a 24-month programme and 6 months into it, it has been most heartening to see the young students thriving under the tutelage of our artisan embroiderers and already producing beautiful pieces of Sarawak keringkam.
Our team is also working hard on our second project, the Borneo Archive, to digitise the vast collection held by the Trust of historic images of Borneo dating back to the early 1800s. We hope to unveil this exciting project in the first quarter of 2024.
The Borneo Archive work has caused us to re-think our approach toward our website refresh project, especially in light of the rapid advancement of web technologies. We have been preferencing Instagram (@brookemuseums) and Facebook (thebrookegallery) as our primary channels of communication but we hope to recommence the website project soon. Do stay tuned!
